Local Policing Leverstock Green and Bennetts End has a dedicated community police officer, PC Jo Stuart, along with a PCSO, Richard Barnes. You will often see them around the village and if you do why not introduce yourself.
Jo and Richard have got together lots of useful information to help you as a resident of Leverstock Green.
There have been a recent number of reports from local residents regarding an abundance of nuisance and silent calls. There are 2 services we recommend you initially register with to help combat these calls, they are:
Telephone Preferential Service:
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to your home or mobile telephone numbers. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.

Telephone: 0845 070 0707 Website: www.tpsonline.org.uk
Silent Guard
Companies using predictive dialers for outgoing customer contact are causing a major problem in that a percentage (at least 5%) of the calls made by predictive dialers are delivered as a silent call, as there is no available agent for the call to be processed by. This often results in the called person calling the BT, Virgin or Telewest Nuisance Call Bureau, as they are unaware of why these calls are being made, and are often concerned that they may be malicious. By registering your home telephone number on this web site you will be added to a database that is used by the major telemarketing companies who use predictive dialers, therefore reducing the chance of you receiving silent calls. Your telephone number is retained on the database for 12 months and to extend this simply register again after this period.

Call Barring for the purpose of nuisance or malicious calls may also be arranged through your local providers, however please be aware charges may apply. Vehicle Crime
The high majority of vehicle crime at present results from offenders attempting to break into your vehicle to steal items of value. Due to the nature of this crime it is very difficult to actually catch a criminal inflicting this type of crime at that moment in time, as this crime can be completed in seconds and unless witnesses come forward or the incident is caught on cctv or evidence is gained through forensics it is unlikely that the offender will be bought to justice, and you are left with the inconvenience of repairing your vehicle, replacing the stolen items and possibly an increased vehicle insurance premium when you renew your policy. So we strongly recommend that prevention is the best way of addressing this type of crime, and to actively reduce the chances of your own vehicle becoming targeted!
You must ensure ALL items are removed from display(if you can see it, so can an opportunist), from coins left in the centre panel to Satellite Navigation System Holders left on windscreens(once removed remember to wipe away the ring mark left by the suction pad). Items such as jackets, cd’s, sunglass cases and even carrier bags should be removed, as a potential offender will see this as an opportunity and take a chance that there might be items of value in the pockets of garments or underneath items, so take away the temptation before your vehicle becomes a statistic!
Information to assist you with Bogus Callers, Rogue Traders, Distraction Burglaries
As we enter the summer it is important to remember to be vigilant in the wake of the hot weather when it comes to home security. Ensure all windows (especially ground floor windows and ones at the rear of the property) and doors have been fully locked when you are not in your residence. Remember to lock with the key as well as lifting the handle on PVC doors to lock them fully, lifting the handle itself does not fully lock the door and will leave your premises vulnerable!
Do not open the door to visitors at your property that you are not expecting(no matter what they are saying under any circumstances), if you are concerned for your safety merely by their presence at your door then call 999 immediately! If you are not concerned for your safety then check through a spy hole or window and always ensure a door chain is left on. REMEMBER all legitimate callers including the police will carry official identification and will have no concerns about letting you verify their presence at your property, prior to entering your residence. Try and keep contact details for your local Police and Council as well as your Water, Gas, Electric, Satellite and Telephone suppliers to hand, so that you can validate the legitimacy of any caller to your property.
You can contact your local Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator or local policing team to request some signage for your property that will remind visitors to your property of the following:
- You will expect full identification and contact details so that you can verify that the visitor is legitimate. - You do not buy or sell at the door. - You may require them to make a written appointment and call back at a convenient time as you will only answer the door for pre-arranged appointments.
If you ever encounter any suspicious callers to your property then please contact the following numbers:
Non Emergency Number: 0845 33 00 222 Emergency Calls Only: 999
